The programme is delivered in partnership with nine football club community organisations across the county with the mission to give young people the structure, support, and trusted relationships they need to change direction and focus on their futures.

The visit included a go-karting session for the young people involved for demonstrating positive progress through the programme. Commissioner Grunshaw spoke with both mentors and young people about how they benefit from the support they receive, which can range from physical wellbeing, to school attendance and further education.

Following the visit, Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:

“I’m really pleased to see how the Champions Programme is engaging with at risk young people and steering them to make positive choices.

“It’s clear how strong the relationships between mentors and participants are, and how influential these connections can be.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I am committed to supporting the work of the Violence Reduction Network, which is making a real difference in the lives of young people across Lancashire.”

Courtney, a Champions Mentor, added:

“As a Champions Mentor, it’s incredibly rewarding to take our participants out to activities in the community that they might not otherwise get to experience. Seeing their smiles and excitement makes every moment worthwhile.”
