In Lancashire, Commissioner Grunshaw’s #GetTheMessage campaign is already leading the way in calling out this type of harassment and encouraging men and boys to reflect on how their behaviours affect women and girls across the county.

Commissioner Grunshaw said: “I really welcome this new legislation to tackle harassment and misogyny. We have to call it out and the new law will give the police stronger powers to deal with perpetrators.

“My recent survey on the Safety of Women and Girls in Lancashire showed that so-called low-level harassment has a huge impact on their feelings of safety. More than half had experienced unwanted comments over the past year, that’s simply not acceptable and it has to change.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is the number one priority in my Police and Crime Plan and I will continue to work closely with the Constabulary to ensure that we use all the tools at our disposal to improve the safety of women and girls and tackle misogyny and harassment in any way we can.
