Funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, the pioneering initiative, which is currently being piloted in Preston, is aimed at enhancing Lancashire Constabulary’s response to domestic abuse and strengthening community support.

DA PCSOs have already been in contact with 251 people to offer advice, information and access to specialist support services.

The eight dedicated PCSOs received specialist training to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to make a real difference.

This has already resulted in multiple referrals to local services including stalking and domestic abuse support and victims reporting increased confidence in contacting the police in the future.

Commissioner Grunshaw said: “This scheme, the first of its kind in the country, is already making a real difference, and I’m proud to see its impact.

“The additional PCSOs offer victims a trusted point of contact, providing reassurance, guidance and access to support, while strengthening our visible presence in communities.

“Early engagement is vital in improving how victims of domestic abuse experience the criminal justice system, and these dedicated PCSOs have the time and expertise to deliver that additional support.

“By building strong relationships and ensuring victims’ voices are heard, we can strengthen trust and confidence in policing, which is a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan.

“This initiative, combining core PCSO duties with a focus on domestic abuse, marks real progress in protecting those most at risk.”

Domestic Abuse PCSO Millie Skipper added: “I’m really proud of the part I play in supporting victims of domestic abuse.

“I want to ensure that victims have access to vital information and specialist support to ensure they can break free from abuse, and this role gives me that opportunity.”

The project will be independently evaluated following the Preston pilot, with a view to rolling it out further across the county.
