The Commissioner’s independent scrutiny panel reviews police records and body-worn video footage of stop and search incidents across the county. Each case is assessed to determine whether it was conducted in line with national guidelines and whether the use of powers were reasonable and proportionate.

At a recent meeting, the panel reviewed a wide range of footage involving both adults and children. Officers representing the Constabulary attended to hear feedback and engage in open discussions about how these powers are being used.

The panel’s work is central to building public trust and confidence in policing, a key priority within the Police and Crime Plan. By offering independent oversight and making recommendations for officer training and development, the panel helps ensure that stop and search and use of forceis used appropriately and effectively.
