During the patrol, the Commissioner met with retailers who praised the positive impact of increased police presence and the community engagement they have been undertaking as part of the initiative.  Both shoppers and business owners reported feeling significantly safer as a result of police action.

Throughout the day, officers conducted both uniformed and plain-clothed patrols in the area and were supported by a mobile police station at Preston’s Flag Market.

Following the visit, Commissioner Clive Grunshaw said:

“I was extremely pleased to hear from retailers themselves how much safer they feel as a result of police work in the city centre.

“This is exactly what neighbourhood policing is all about, visible officers on the beat engaging with the communities they serve, listening to their concerns.

“Whether it’s tackling anti-social behaviour through Operation Centurion, or addressing the damage caused by retail crime with Operation Vulture, I am committed to scrutinising the Chief Constable to make sure we deliver the most efficient, effective policing we can, tackling crime and protecting people across the county.”
